  MCC coming to the ACG:

The rise of Phuket in world cricket continues next Thursday 16th February 2012 with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), from Lords, the home of cricket, kicking off their Thailand tour with a T20 match at the ACG.

Since recently opening in November 2011, the Phuket Cricket Group (PCG) and ACG have hosted several high profile tours including the long-established Singapore Cricket Club, the Delhi Viceroys and most recently the Cricket Association of Thailand national youth team vs Asian Invitational XI which featured former Bangladesh test captain, Aminul Islam.

Founded in 1787, MCC is the world's most famous cricket club. Today, MCC's role remains as relevant as ever. From guarding the game's Laws to safeguarding its Spirit, and from promoting cricket to young people to looking after Lord's, MCC is committed to the good of the game.

MCC's teams play around 500 matches a year. They set off for overseas tours to destinations as diverse as Tanzania and Cyprus (and now Phuket, Thailand) to help increase cricket's international appeal. In planning these trips, MCC works closely with the International Cricket Council (ICC). This helps to maximise the tours' effectiveness in increasing cricket's international appeal and assisting national teams' move towards one-day international or even Test status.

With Pakistan just completing their first clean sweep against England in a test series, WG Grace must be turning in his grave. The boys from the MCC will therefore be looking to save face for England with a successful tour of Thailand.

However, with the ever improving standard of cricket in Phuket, the PCG side will be out to show they are a force to be reckoned with. So if you want to see our local boys take on the might of Lords, come down and show them your support at the ACG on Thursday 16th February from 2pm.
